Doctors and other health experts repetitively emphasize the importance of a balance diet and exercise in having a healthy life. Balance diet alone cannot do the wonders for our bodies because it is limited to the vitamins and minerals it brings in to our bodies which can be referred to as a chemical activity. Exercise on the other hand is as equally important as having a balance diet because it has physical impacts to our bodies.

Jogging for 30 to 45 minutes a day can do a lot for your heart and cardio aspect of the body in general. A way to healthier heart is guided by these cardio exercises and healthy eating lifestyle. Another classic example is having crunches everyday in keeping a tummy slim and fit. Besides avoiding fatty foods, crunches are very simple to do but their impact on burning the fats in the belly area and physically trimming it are things that fat-free foods can never do.

And for the elders, exercise is deemed more important for them especially doing brisk walking everyday. As human bodies grow older, the joints and muscles become weaker. And as they grow weaker, mobility is becoming a greater concern. That is why brisk walking is highly advised for older people because the joints and muscles are stretched and exercised.

Mental health concerns one’s entire psychological well-being. It is also sometimes referred to as emotional health as emotions or simply feelings play a big role in the psychological make-up of a person. Emotions towards one’s self, quality of relationships, and ability to handle difficulties and manage one’s emotions complete the psychological make-up. Hence, importance and emphasis on these things is needed in taking care of one’s mental health.

Mental health should begin with one’s emotions about him and should extend towards outside concerns such as emotions at times of difficulty and relationships with other people. A common mistake of some people is that they consider a good mental health if one does not have disorders. But in fact, disorders are not the only sign that could explain the condition of one’s mental health – positive characteristics are also one sign that people should start looking at.

Simple tips to observe these positive characteristics are the abilities to have fun and laugh, deal with pressure and bounce back from difficulties, learn new things and welcome change, sense contentment and see the meaning of relationships, achieve a balance between work and play and lastly to have very high self-esteem should be the core of all these.

Each person knows what being healthy is but not everyone knows how to be healthy and only a few are very conscious of its impact to our day-to-day lives. In fact, people are rarely aware of how their health can significantly improve or ruin even a single day. That is to say, our health influences the daily performance of our body.

One of the top benefits of being healthy is better protection from sicknesses. Healthy people are less likely to be sick. Immunity is one aspect of our health everyone should be most concern of. Being prone or not immune from sicknesses jeopardizes the body’s performance by not being able to carry on normal activities. Sick people miss work or cancel activities and just stay at home and remain unproductive in general. This of course not only has emotional and physical disadvantages but also financial repercussions for being unproductive or underperforming.

Now apart from the day-to-day role of health in our lives, in the long run, health becomes a top concern when talking about longer life. Healthy people tend to have better chance of living longer than those who are not. That is why investing in one’s health as early and as young as possible promises better living and longer life too.

Beauty is a favorite issue discussed as old as Cleopatra’s time until today. But the bigger issue today that augmented the discussion of beauty is the science of cosmetic surgery. People availing cosmetic surgeries can have different reasons. But the most common ones are personal preference or medical need. Victims of fire and other dreadful accidents that may have distorted faces or body structures usually seek for cosmetic surgeries as a medical need to bring back their original looks prior to the accident. For this reason, cosmetic surgery can only try to reconstruct the body part close to its original look. Hence, there is no guarantee of full reconstruction but at least the cosmetic surgery can inspire the patient to go on with his life. This can be referred to as the cosmetic surgery case of turning something bad to good. Meanwhile, another case would be turning something good to better which are those because of personal preference.

Cosmetic surgeries due to personal preference are the most prevalent case. It can be a flat nose turned to a pointed one or thin lips to fuller ones and the list goes one. But the results are not guaranteed to be like those expected simply because cosmetic surgery is not an exact science. In fact, there is no particular field of medicine that surgeons take for cosmetic surgery but instead only guidelines about training and qualifications by medical bodies or organizations are provided. This is why the risks in cosmetic surgeries is very high because the results are not guaranteed and may even have irreversible if not fatal effects to the patient. In addition, on the case where the results are desirable, one should also be aware that results are usually not for the long term. Hence, cosmetic surgeries are usually done repetitively incurring more costs over time. But the most important lesson about cosmetic surgery goes beyond the money issue and that is not to comprise the safety of the patient for cheaper cosmetic surgeries and unreliable medical surgeons for one’s life is priceless.

“The best cure is prevention.”

This line is very true, especially for conditions as serious as Cancer. It would be best to nip the problem in the bud. When it comes to Skin Cancer, the first and most effective line of defense can be taken from the ’99 Baz Luhrmann hit (aptly) entitled “Everybody’s Free (To Wear Sunscreen)”:

Wear sunscreen
If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it.
The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists…

Use at least SPF20 sunscreen when you go out into the sun, re-apply liberally after every hour especially if you’re out swimming. When out on the beach, make sure you do not get sunburn.

Cover up with adequately with enough clothing and visors or hats. Try to stay in the shade and away from the sun from 11am-3pm. Never go outdoors without your sunglasses – your eyes are just as vulnerable to cancer as your skin. Make sure your glasses have sufficient UV protection.

New studies show that green vegetables may also be a great help in preventing Skin Cancer. They say that some compounds found in vegetables like cabbage and broccoli work against melanoma — the most serious form of Skin Cancer.
